In 2016 a non-political person was elected to the highest office in this country. Noone questioned his morals or his values even after making such crass statements as "Just grab them in the pussy." and "Yes I just kiss them even though they may not want me to, I'm famous what are they going to do." His platform was to make America great again, the same man that refused to fight for this country when he was younger. In fact deferred his emlistment five times but yet managed to play sports in college. And I get it noone willingly wants to go off to war knowing they may not return. But when you stand up in front of an audience and display a Purple Heart that a veteran gave to you and say "I always wanted one of these." When belittles a former POW and war hero even after death speaks volumes especially to one who has served protecting someone like him. His followers seem to hang on his every word as if he is speaking from a holy book. No matter what he says they believe, he can do no wrong in their eyes. Even when presented with the facts or hear their words for themselves, their response "That is not what he meant." and then they try to explain what they believe he was trying to convey. And you would think with all twitter outbursts, and all accusations flung his way this would deter to some extent. Make the chances of him getting re-elected highly unlikely, but to the contrary it has the opposite effect. Granted the other party involved does make it easy for him. With all the in fighting that is going on one would be surprised if they could/would get anything accomplished. They give the impression they are more concerned about the rights of illegal immigrant. They are more than willing to offer them free health care and any other social services they may need. But we have homeless vets that could use this help as well. They spout about taking away the guns of law abiding citizens even though it is protected by the second ammendment. So yes they are making it very easy for someone like him to win re-election. His speeches always seem to have racists undertones. He degrades American cities as well as a section of it's populace. He speaks of murderers, rapists and drug dealers swarming over our southern borders. I will agree we do to strenghten our borders, but it seems he is only concerned with the southern borders. What about all the Europeans that have stayed long past their visas have expired. Are they not criminals we don't see images of them being round up and shipped out of the country. Could it be the color of their skin gives them a free pass. But I digress.
Because to constantly attack him only causes those that follow him to draw closer to him. Gives them more reason to protect his words and actions. Keep in mind these are the same people that don't hold him to any standard because he is not a politician. Now I would be remiss if I didn't say he hasn't done any good. He took off the tax penalty for health care, he lowered the wage tax so the average person brings home a little more each pay period. And yes the job numbers haved never looked better, and his tarriffs have had some effect in bringing other countries back to the table for renegotiations over these one sided trade deals. So here we are in 2019 as the next election year looms over the horizion what do we have to look forward to, more twitter outbursts, divisive language all because members of his own Republican party are to afraid to stand up to him. While the Democrats are to busy infighting and coming up with newer ways to either take away our guns or give away our country.
So instead of getting into shouting matches and name calling. Ask questions, sit down and have intelligent conversations listen to each other. Hold our elected officials to the same standards we hold ourselves. Wheather they are career politicians or their first foray into the political arena hold them accountable. We all have to stop taking loses and coming up short. Because in the end when we don't hold them accountable and realize that they work for us and not us working for them we can get alot accomplished.
